Why is a single-use plastic ban necessary?

Plastic straws will no longer be available for drinking juice, because, from July 1, the use of single-use plastic will be banned in the country. The Indian government has made it clear that along with fines, strict action will also be taken against those who break the rules. Today we will discuss this issue, why is it necessary to ban single-use plastic? How plastic is dissolving in our body by becoming poison, a few days ago it was told in a report that plastic has also dissolved in our blood.

What items will fall under the purview of single-use plastic? What would be their alternative? And one important issue which is related to single-use plastic we will discuss especially on that is the loss of business, because many companies in India are saying that single-use plastic will cause a big loss to the business. So has the government taken this into account and what are the options prepared for that and what will we choose between business and our health?

If businesses suffered from single-use plastic. We will talk about all these questions as well. Plastic straws will not be available for drinking juice. On buying vegetables, the shopkeeper will not give you vegetables in a plastic bag. It is a single-use plastic that is extremely dangerous for the environment. Right now people are using them indiscriminately. Everything from greens vegetables to fruits and flowers are being sold in plastic bags, but now we have to improve our habits.

Because, from July 1, the government has completely banned single-use plastic. Announcing the ban, the Environment Ministry notification said that the manufacturer imports, stocking, distribution, sale, and use of the single-use plastic commodities including polystyrene and expanded polystyrene will be prohibited with effect from the first July 2022 single-use plastics are those plastic items that are used once and discarded and these items comprise the highest share of plastic manufactured and used.

From July 1, we will have to use paper straws to drink juice. Many more such plastics from a paper whose use has been banned. Apart from plastic straws, the products which have been banned by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) include candy and plastic flags, plastic sticks used in balloons. The bann

ed single-use plastic items include earbuds with plastic sticks, plastic sticks for balloons, plastic flags, candy sticks, ice cream sticks, polystyrene, or thermocol for decoration.

The notification also enlisted plates, cups, glasses, and cutlery such as folks spoons, knives, straws trays, wrapping or packing films around sweet boxes, invitation cards, cigarette packets plastic, or PVC banners less than 100 microns stirred as the banned single use plastic items.

According to the notification, the ban has been announced to phase out single-use plastic as part of the Central Pollution Control Board's comprehensive action plan to reduce the supply of raw materials by reducing plastic demand and enabling measures to promote alternatives to single-use plastics.

Apart from plastic sheets used for packing sweet boxes and cigarette boxes, TVC banners and polished stream products of less than 100 microns thickness have also been banned. CPCB. Instead, it is talking about promoting the trend of compost bulk plastics which are biodegradable and mixed with the soil. Compostable is eco-friendly plastic.

What would you choose between business and your health?

First, let us understand what is single-use plastic. These are those products made of plastic that can be used only once. They cannot be recycled. nor can they be easily destroyed. Talking about its damage, plastic does not harden if burnt and releases toxic chemicals in the air while burning. Also, it prevents the ground from absorbing water during rains. As a result, the water level in the ground decreases. The same would also block the drains during the rainy season.

They are directly attacking our health, they reach our body in some form or the other, they are giving rise to problems like cancer, hormonal, in addition to impotence, body fat. In such a situation, we will have to say no to the use of plastic and as an alternative, we will have to promote the use of jute bags, because the maximum use of single-use plastic in the country is in the form of bags.

From July 1, 2022, single-use plastic will be banned from this day, but the business world is upset about this ban because so far no other means have been found for the products sold in single-use plastic packs, in which can these products are sold.

Due to this the Confederation of All India Traders i.e. CAIT sent a letter to Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav on Sunday, appealing to postpone the ban on single-use plastic for one year.

Along with this, a request has also been made to constitute a joint committee. Demand has been made to include government officials and stakeholders' representatives in this committee so that alternatives to single-use plastic can be found and can be resolved in a given time. With this, the use of single-use plastic will be stopped in the country without any problem, but there is a problem with this too.

The benefit of the ban on single-use plastic will be visible later, but the harm is already visible before the ban. The problem is that single-use plastic employs lakhs of people in the country and has also become a huge industry with an annual turnover of more than 60,000 crore. Banks and financial institutions also have a major stake in the single-use plastics industry, without providing any equal alternatives.

In the event of a complete ban, there is a possibility of huge losses in the working sector of retail trade in India, and a big financial crisis will arise from it. At the same time, many businessmen can also stand on the verge of bankruptcy. According to experts, the problem is also that the new generation of single-use plastic is used by multinational companies, and corporate manufacturers, the product is used by many types of production units like e-commerce companies, and warehousing hubs in their production line or packaging of finished goods.

Traders are forced to sell goods in whatever packing they get from the manufacturer or the source. Unless these companies and manufacturing units are forced to stop using single-use plastics in the production line or the packaging of finished goods. Till then, there will always be an opportunity for the question of single-use plastic from the consumer side. Therefore, these big companies will have to be cracked first, then only this ban will be successful.

Coca-Cola and PepsiCo business in crisis in India:

Let us tell you that Dabur, Parle Agro together with Coca-Cola and Pepsi sells 6 billion plastic straw juice boxes in the country every year. About 60% of the companies' juice sales come from the seals of these small packets. The same soft drink makers also do business for $ 6.5 billion every year in India. In this market, the share of small packets of juices and dairy products sold with plastic straws is worth 79 million dollars.

The packaging of these packets is playing a big role in degrading the environment. But if this ban is imposed, then the problem of poor conditions may arise in front of these companies as well. Let us tell you that the Ministry of Environment issued a notification banning the use of single-use plastic in August 2021. In that sense, one year has passed anyway because this ban is to be from 1st July 2022.

But then perhaps these companies would not have taken this thing so seriously. That's why today they are troubled by the single-use plastic ban and are planning to extend the date. What do you think should be postponed for another year? This ban should or should not be postponed. Please do let us know by commenting on our website www.tradeipohub.co.in.
