When Shinzo Abe clashed with China for India:
Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has come and gone among us in the world, but no one can forget the friendship that Shinzo Abe had with India. On the one hand, while he opened the treasury of Japan to India for many big products, on the other hand, bypassing China's opposition, helped India a lot in the project being built in the North East.
Now Shinzo Abe is a former PM of another country, for whom a day's national mourning has been announced in India. Prime Minister Modi has announced that there will be a day of national mourning in the memory of Shinzo Abe in India on 9th July. Not only this, but the Government of India had also awarded him the Padma Vibhushan, the country's second-highest civilian honor, in the last year itself.
It can be gauged from the importance of Shinzo Abe to India. Shinzo Abe visited India for the first time in 2006 during his first term in office. At that time he addressed the Parliament in India. Abe visited India in 2014 after becoming Prime Minister again in 2012. When Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister in the year 2014, then the relations between India and Japan got renewed. Abe is the first Japanese prime minister to be the chief guest at the January 26 parade in 2014.
After this also visited India from December 2015 - September 2017. During this, many important agreements were signed between both countries. Developing Kashi city on the lines of Kyoto, bullet train project, nuclear energy, Indo Pacific strategy, and Act East policy were included in this agreement when Modi went to Japan in 2014. Under this, Japan is helping to build the necessary infrastructure to make Kashi a smart city, as well as to preserve the historical heritage of art and culture.
When Abe visited India in December 2015, he together with
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Varanasi. At that time the convention center in
Varanasi was announced. This project has been prepared with the help of Japan.
In this, Japan helped ₹ 186 crores. When PM Modi inaugurated the Varanasi
Convention Center on July 2021, Shinzo Abe gave a special thanks.
After this, when Abe came to India in September 2017, on
this tour of Ahmedabad with PM Modi, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project
was started. India's first bullet train is being built in collaboration with
Japan. ₹1.8 crores will be spent on this project, out of which Japan is
investing INR 88,000 crore. For this favorite project of PM Modi, Japan is
providing technical support to the supply of bullet trains. However, due to
some reasons, this project is running late. The first bullet train in the
country is likely to run in 2026.
Apart from this, Japan is also cooperating in the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor i.e. DMIC, a kilometer-long floating highway being built between Delhi and Mumbai. The project was cleared by the Union Cabinet's Committee on Economic Affairs before Abe visited India in January 2014. The first aid for this ambitious $90 billion project came from Japan. Apart from this, many metro projects are being built in many cities of India with the help of Japan.
Earlier Japan did not recognize India as a nuclear power, but due to the efforts of Abe, in 2016, the civil nuclear pact between the two countries, and Abe made a civil nuclear agreement with India even after not being a member of the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty. Many important agreements were also signed between the two countries on the two plus two meetings with the foreign and defense ministers and the technology of defense equipment.
It also gave a new dimension to India's relations with other
countries of the world. Japan is helping India in many projects being built in
the Northeast around the border with China. For this, Shinzo Abe also sidelined
China's opposition. During Abe's visit to India in 2017, India and Japan signed
a deal for several projects in the North East. China has been claiming
Arunachal Pradesh as its area. Considers it a controversial issue.
China said that there is a dispute between India and China
regarding the border. Therefore any third country should avoid investing there.
But Japan bypassed China's opposition and extended a helping hand in the
project. These things were also Shinzo Abe's heartfelt relationship with India PM
Modi considered him his friend. He also had a good friendship with PM
Manmohan Singh.
Expressing his grief on the death of Shinzo Abe, PM Modi
wrote, "My association with Shinzo Abe was many years old. I knew him
during my tenure when I was the Chief Minister of Gujarat and our friendship
continued even after I became the PM. His insights on global affairs for eight
years have always left a deep impression on me. Overall, India has lost a good
Japanese friend. But Shinzo Abe will live on forever in the hearts of everyone,
who know and understand him as a good leader".
You can guess this from the fact that when Narendra Modi
went to Japan in the year 2018, Shinzo Abe invited him to a special house at
that time. Shinzo Abe did this by saying that Narendra Modi is very special to
him because at that time he had invited very few leaders to his house. Modi
also considered Shinzo Abe as his special friend and in the year 2021, the
Government of India honored Shinzo Abe with one of the country's highest
civilian honors, Padma Vibhushan.
The last meeting of the two leaders took place after the
second in-person Quad Leaders in Tokyo on 24 May, and at that time Shinzo Abe
had also praised Prime Minister Modi a lot. There have been so many
similarities between Shinzo Abe and Narendra Modi. We also tell you five such
big similarities. Shinzo Abe is considered the greatest nationalist leader of
Japan, while Narendra Modi is said to be the greatest nationalist leader of
India.
Both the leaders had to make necessary changes in the constitution
to rectify the historical wrongs. Like Prime Minister Modi made a revolutionary
change by removing Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, while in 2015, Shinzo
Abe changed the constitution of Japan and gave the right to the army there to
fight against their enemies even outside the border of Japan.
Prime Minister Modi in his tenure so far has emphasized
strengthening relations with countries that consider China as their enemy, such
as India has strengthened its economic and military ties with Vietnam and so
has Shinzo Abe during his tenure. Japan's relations with Taiwan were given
great importance. And most importantly, both the leaders won many elections in
their political careers.
