Shocking news has come out from the South African country of the Gambia, this news is related to India. 66 children have died in the Gambia, after consuming decongestant cough syrup made by an Indian pharmaceutical company.
Since then the question mark has been raised on the Indian pharmaceutical company. WHO has issued an alert for four cough syrups made in India with this claim. WHO has advised that it contains chemicals that are toxic and potentially lethal. In such a situation, all countries should ban the sale of these products to avoid further harm to patients.

The consumption of these syrups has claimed the death of children on a large scale in The Gambia.
The WHO has said in the report that diethylene glycol and Ethylene Glycol are unacceptable amounts in cough syrups and both are like poison to humans. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has said that the death of children is related to these four drugs, due to which the children's kidneys were damaged.
On the other hand, after the warning WHO, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization in Delhi has issued orders for an immediate investigation. On the other hand, the All India Organization of Chemists and Druggists have said that the company exports only this cough syrup made by Haryana-based pharmaceutical company Maiden Pharma.
It is not supplied in the country, but if the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) gives any guidelines in this regard, they will be followed. The Gambia is a famous tourist destination. In July this year, the health authorities of Gambia learned that the cases of acute kidney injury among children under the age of five have increased.
According to Gambian health officials, dozens of children died in September, So they started increasing worries. However, they did not have the exact details of those who died. After this incident, the government of Gambia also banned the use of all paracetamol syrups. Then the information was given to WHO and the investigation started.
After the samples testing in the lab, it was confirmed that those drugs had a high amount of harmful components. Health-wise, they are poisonous and can cause abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, difficulty urinating, headache, mental status changes, and acute kidney injury which can even lead to death.
At present, an investigation is going on regarding the
whole matter. The sample will be sent to the Central Drug Lab in Kolkata for
testing. Haryana Health Minister Anil Vij says that if anything is found wrong
after the report, strict action will be taken. According to the same
information, this company exports its medicines to countries in Asia, Africa,
and Latin America. No information has been found regarding its availability in
the Indian markets.
