Green tea contains catechin as a primary antioxidant, which is called  Epigallocatechin gallate i.e. EGCG. Its excessive amount causes inflammation in the liver. However, the effects of catechin gallate in large amounts may vary from person to person. Researchers included more than 1000 post-menopause women in their year-long study.

 

In their research, scientists collected data related to it during the three, sixth, nine, and 12 months. It found that, on average, women with the high-risk genotype increased liver stress by almost 80% after nine months of taking green tea supplements. While the same enzyme was seen to be up to 30% higher in people with a low-risk genotype, the genotype is a genetic trait that is inherited from a parent. It varies from person to person.

 

In such a situation, how much the liver is affected by the antioxidants of green tea, also depends on the genotype. Let us tell you that green tea also contains caffeine. One cup of green tea contains 12 mg of caffeine. Its excessive consumption has a bad effect on health. Excess caffeine can also lead to problems like dizziness, lack of sleep, nausea, vomiting, and restlessness.

 

At the same time, excessive caffeine also affects our digestive system. Sometimes people suffer from the problem of acidity due to the deterioration of the balance of the chemical that keeps the digestive system healthy in the body. Keep in mind that excessive consumption of green tea sometimes leads to iron deficiency in the body. There is a problem in the formation of iron in the body, the lack of which increases the risk of anaemia.

 

There is also a risk of weakening the muscles due to excessive consumption. Not only this, pregnant women should not drink green tea more than twice a day because the caffeine present in it can have a bad effect on the health of both mother and child. There has been a boom in green tea in India, people give a lot of importance to it.
