Do you know, Indians spent more than 5 hours on mobile in 2022?

The smartphone has entered our life in such a way that everyone seems to be engrossed in the mobile. According to the data, every Indian spends around five hours a day on mobile. According to Data.ai's State of Mobile report, the interference of smartphones has started increasing in every aspect of our lives. This especially harms the children a lot.

Whether during the journey or at home, people are often seen engrossed in their mobiles. In 2022 Indians spent around five hours every day on smartphones. Indian users jumped to the eighth position in the ranking of countries with the highest average hours spent on mobile in the world.

If we look at the total time spent on smartphones, Indians spent a total of 0.75 billion hours looking at smartphones. These figures have come out in data.ai's State of Mobile 2023 report. According to this report, last year the maximum number of 111 billion apps were downloaded in China. At the same time, the total number of downloads of the same app in India reached a record high of 29 billion.

India ranked second in downloading the app. The US was the third largest app downloader with 12 billion app downloads. According to the report, not only downloads have increased in 2022, but the time told on smartphones has also increased. It has also been revealed in the report that the cost of living has increased due to an increase in inflation.

In such a situation, people are cutting down on gaming expenses. Gaming spending declined 5% year over year to $110 billion. In addition, the report suggests that global advertising spending on mobile will reach $362 billion in 2023, with short video apps and video-sharing apps such as YouTube accounting for a significant share.

How the use of smartphones is increasing with each passing day, but the loss due to it should also be noted. Especially children have to be protected from the excessive use of smartphones. Excessive use of mobile is making them angry and rude. This thing has come to light in research done in Canada.

According to research, if your little child watches the screen for more than two hours, then it is worrying. A child can grow up to be rude. There is a risk of ADHD Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder will increase in the child. The risk of ADHD in such children increases by 5 to 7 times. According to research, the more time kids spend on screens, the more time they take away from a healthy activity.

They stay away from sports. Children's use of mobiles also affects their sleep. According to research, children should not be allowed to watch the screen for more than 30 minutes before preschool. Although researchers say that it is not necessary to completely remove your children from mobile gadgets.

It is also important to get them used to electronic devices, but very slowly. At the same time, some researchers say that there is no direct link between screen time and ADHD in children. But he also believes that reducing screen time is better for the child's health. This is important not only for children but also for adults.

Where have India's mobile internet users gone?

There was a time when India used to have the cheapest internet in the world. But today India has come to number five in this matter. On the other hand, the number of mobile internet users in India is not increasing in the last two years, but why? Let's try to understand. Let's start with the news.

TRAI has released some figures, according to which in October 2021, a total of 77.30 crore people were using mobile internet in the country. In October 2022, the number has increased to 78.91 crores. That is an increase of only 2% is visible. You will say what is the big deal in this, but this figure is worrying because, between 2014 and 2020, the number of mobile internet users almost doubled every year.

But after 2020 it got braked. If we see the figure of mobile internet users between 2014 and 2020, then it was doubling every year. For example, in October 2014, the number of mobile internet users was 6.36 crore. In 2015 it increased to 10.80 crores. In 2016 it increased to 17.38 crores. Whereas in 2017 it increased to 32.17 crores.

Same if you reach 2020 then the number of mobile internet users has increased to 71.26 crores. Which increased to 77.30 crores by 2021 and in 2022 this figure increased to 78.91 crores. This means only a 2% increase was seen during this time i.e. from 2020 to 2022 and between October 2021 and October 2022, it increased by a very slight margin.

This figure shows that there has been a sharp decline in the number of mobile internet users in the last two years. Telecom companies blame the increase in the prices of smartphones for this, but if we look at the figures a little more, the picture is different. Today, India is number five in terms of cheap internet, but two years ago, the world's cheapest internet was in India.

The cost of internet data in India has almost doubled between 2020 and 2022. According to the Worldwide Mobile Data Pricing Report, the world's cheapest internet in 2020 was in India. At that time the average price of one GB of data in the country was ₹7.31. According to the report of 2022, the average price of one GB of data will increase to ₹ 13.81.

That is, the cost of data in India has almost doubled. The telecom company keeps talking about increasing the data tariff citing spectrum charges and other expenses. On the other hand, the argument remains in the telecom companies that smartphones have also become expensive.

That's why internet usage is decreasing. But is it the reason that if we look at the issue of smartphones, the production of smartphones has decreased in the global market due to the shortage of components like a chip, semiconductors, and screens? it is well known. Its maximum effect was also seen on the entry-level smartphone.

Two years ago, as far as the cheapest smartphone in the market was in the range of 5000 to 8000, now it comes in the range of 15 to 16000 rupees. Apart from this, mobile companies have also reduced the launch of new smartphones.

Companies are now using existing components more in high-end smartphones, but the increasing cost of smartphones in India is not the only reason to reduce internet users. Internet being expensive in India is also a big reason for this. Perhaps telecom companies need to understand this.
